BASS REEVES - FRONTIE MARSHAL

A TRUE WESTERN HERO

Airship 27 Productions proudly presents BASS REEVES – FRONTIER LAWMAN, a fictional anthology inspired by the life of a real Oklahoma U.S. Deputy Marshal.

He began his life as a slave. During the Civil War he escaped and lived among the Indians of the Five Civilized Tribes in the Oklahoma Territories. He learned to ride, shoot and track prey from his adopted people. When the war ended, he was recruited as one of the first black deputy marshals in the history of the west.

In a thirty year career, operating under the authority of Judge Parker out of Fort Smith, he captured over three thousand outlaws, was involved in fourteen major gun battles and never wounded once.  At the ended of his career, he became a Deputy Sheriff in Tuskegee until his death at the age of 70.  He is considered the greatest western lawman that ever lived.

“The greatest lawman you never heard of,” states Airship 27 Productions’ Managing Editor Ron Fortier.  “Shamefully because of the color of his skin, Bass Reeves’ exploits were purposely left out of the history books. While we were being taught about the white lawmen of the times such as Wyatt Earp and Wild Bill Hickock, prejudicial teachers did their best to bury the stories of the hundreds of black pioneers who worked, sweated and died to settle the western territories. Brave black cowboys, Buffalo Soldiers and heroes of justice like Bass Reeves; determined to bring law and order to the Wild West.”

Now writers Gary Phillips, Mel Odom, Andrew Salmon and Derrick Ferguson have whipped up four action packed adventures inspired by this legendary figure. Tales of a wild frontier where outlaws and renegades roamed freely until the coming of one amazing man who wore a badge and vowed to bring justice to one and all. He was Bass Reeves – Frontier Marshal.

LEGENDS OF NEW PULP FICTION

AIRSHIP 27 PRODUCTIONS
Proudly Presents
LEGENDS OF NEW PULP FICTION

Earlier in the year we learned that New Pulp writer/editor/publisher Tommy Hancock was suffering from congestive heart-failure.  A relatively young family man, this was a dangerous condition that threatened not only Tommy but his entire family.  Almost immediately after this news was made public, several members of the New Pulp community began putting their heads together to see if anything could be done to help the Hancocks.

“Jaime Ramos proposed the idea of doing a benefit anthology,” says Airship 27 Productions Managing Editor, Ron Fortier.  “It was such a great idea, I realized it needed to get done and we began planning such a project.” The first thing Fortier did was bring aboard his partner in Airship 27, Art Director Rob Davis. “There was no way this was going to fly without Rob handling the book’s overall artwork and design.”  Fortier then went to Hancock and informed him of their plans. With Hancock’s blessings, he then posted an ad on Facebook explaining the project and seeking submissions from both writers and artists.  “It was always our intention to do this as a traditional pulp tome and thus artwork would be a major element in the final product.”

Much to Fortier’s surprise, and delight, the first creator to volunteer his assistance was Douglas Klauba, one of the finest artists in the field.  Klauba volunteered to paint the anthology’s cover once the book was assembled.  “Honestly,” Fortier confesses, “I was in shock. Doug is an amazing artist and his offering to do the cover was very much an omen that we were about to put together something truly unique.”

Within 48 hours after posting his recruiting ad, Fortier had received 57 commitments by New Pulp writers while 36 artists in the field signed on to do the illustrations.  Amongst these creators were some of the most popular New Pulp writers and artists in the field. In fact, getting so many promised stories in just two days, Fortier begrudgingly realized he and his associates were being handed a giant book and he publicly closed the admission call.  “It was crazy,” he recalls.  “Fifty-seven stories in just two days!  Of course there were naysayers who warned me we’d never get all of them.  They were right, we got 62 instead.”

And so the project began with Fortier reading each entry and then assigning it to an artist to illustrate.  Each tale features one black and white illustration.  Ramos acted as his assistant editor proofing teach story after Fortier with them.  Then, months into the project, Ramos, who suffers from diabetes, found his own health in jeopardy and after having handled half the stories, was forced to sideline himself.  What looked to be a major set-back was averted with writer/editor Todd Jones, a protégé of Fortier’s, volunteered to take on the task of finishing the proofing.

And so, after months of ups and downs. Airship 27 Productions is extremely proudly to present LEGENDS OF NEW PULP FICTION.  A giant treasure chest of some of the finest New Pulp fiction ever produced in an 830 page collection.  Representing the varied genres of pulp tradition, this volume features tales of horror, mystery, horror, suspense, pirates, fantasy, private eyes, crime-busting avengers and westerns to name a few.
“Rob and I kidded during the long months of production that we had everything pulp save for a romance story,” quips Fortier.  “Then in the final days of story submissions, we were sent a romance.  No lie!”

LEGENDS OF NEW PULP FICTION is now available at Amazon.com in both hard copy and on Kindle.  All profits earned by this amazing book are going to Tommy Hancock and his family.  Sure to become a valued collector’s item, LEGENDS OF NEW PULP FICTION is a one of a kind title pulp fans young and old, will cherish in years to come.

THE AMAZING HARRY HOUDINI

AIRSHIP 27 PRODUCITONS
Presents -
HARRY HOUDINI – PULP HERO

Airship 27 Productions is thrilled to announce the released of its newest pulp anthology starring one of the most famous figures in American theatrical history; magician – escape artist supreme, the one and only Harry Houdini!

Houdini began his stage career as a card manipulator.  As his popularity grew, he quickly became known as one of the most colorful stage magicians and escape artists of all time.  Then the movies came knocking and the man people had only read about in the newspapers was suddenly starring on the silver screen captivating audiences with his daring serial exploits.  Harry Houdini was no longer just a magician, he was a bonafide celebrity known around the world.

“I’ve been fascinated with this character since I first heard of him as a child,” says Airship 27 Productions Managing Editor Ron Fortier. “The more I learned it became clear that Houdini, during his own lifetime, evolved into one of the first true international superstars. Once he became a hero of the cinema, his fame and legend were permanently cemented in the hearts of his admirers everywhere.  Wherever he appeared the states, he would attract crowds numbering in the thousands.”

In 1904 Houdini and his manager, Martin Beck, began a world tour starting in London and the adventures grew even more fantastic.  “Although our stories are fictional,” continues Fortier, “we saw his globe-trotting escapes as the perfect backdrop for our writers to whip up fantastic, action packed tales.” From encounters with Bram Stoker and Arthur Conan Doyle, Houdini then battles an evil cult in the catacombs of Paris before heading to Berlin on the famous Nord Express where murder reared its ugly.  These amazing tales are chronicled here by Jim Beard, James Palmer, Ian Watson and Roman Leary.

The cover is by Carl Yonder with gorgeous black and white illustrations by Pedro Cruz and all put together by our award winning Art Directo, Rob Davis.  And so Airship 27 Productions is truly excited to present our readers with a brand new look at a truly extraordinary man who was indeed larger life, he was Harry Houdini, Pulp Hero!

TWO CLASSICS RETURN

AIRSHIP 27 PRODUCITONS
Announces!!
TWO CLASSIC MYSTERIES BACK IN PRINT

Several years ago writer Gary Lovisi submitted his novel, “SHERLOCK HOLMES –  The Baron’s Revenge,” to us.  We loved it. We published it via Create Space and began selling it at Amazon in hard copy.  Shortly thereafter, Gary was approached by some bully lawyer claiming he was infringing on a licensed property and was attempting to coerce him via this blackmailing ploy.  When Gary notified us of this contact, we assured him Holmes was public domain and he should ignore this jerk.  Sadly, this was a year or so before the U.S. Federal Court made our claim known throughout the land.

In deference to Gary’s wishes, he pulled the book from Amazon’s public pages….but continued to sell it at the Create Space site.  Ultimately, we went and released it on Kindle.  Then after the court’s public ruling, we notified Amazon to put the book back up publicly where everyone could find it again.  It’s a great book and deserves to be read by Holmes fans everywhere.  Somehow our request was never implanted and only recently, while preparing to have all our Holmes titles done as audio books, we discovered Amazon had dropped the ball and never gotten “The Baron’s Revenge” back up on an official Amazon page.

This past week, we contacted them again, explained the situation and they, Amazon, told us they would remedy the issue.  But for whatever reasons, Amazon has chosen NOT to comply with our wishes and the title on the Amazon pages only appears for Kindle.  To that end we are posting its page at Create Space where you can now buy a hard copy.  If we have our way it will remain there indefinitely. Gary Lovisi’s “SHERLOCK HOLMES – The Baron’s Revenge” is once again available in hard copy at the link below.

At the same we posted a new Airship 27 Production edition of our first Dr. Watson solo adventure, SEASON OF MADNESS by Aaron Smith, which had been out of print for a while.  We’re delighted to have this new edition available once again. It too will soon be an audio book from Radio Archives.

BLACK BAT MYSTERY Vol 3

AIRSHIP 27 PRODUCTIONS
Presents

MORE BLACK BAT ACTION!

Airship 27 Productions is thrilled to announce the release of “Black Bat Mystery Vol 3.” One of the greatest pulp action heroes is back in four brand new adventures.  Tony Quinn, blind defense attorney and police consultant, is in reality the crime-busting vigilante known as the Black Bat. He is aided by the lovely Carol Baldwin, former con-artist Silk Kirby and ex-boxer Butch O’Malley. Together they battle the underworld of New York City, fearlessly putting their lives at risk to champion justice.

“Once considered a second stringer, the advent of New Pulp has catapulted the Black Bat to new heights popularity,” says Airship 27 Productions’ Managing Editor Ron Fortier. “Although regarded as a fan-favorite of older pulp fans, the Black Bat was mostly unheard of until New Pulp came along and introduced him to an entire new generation of readers.” Today comic fans are discovering the unique similarities inherent in this classic pulp character and such heroes as Batman and Daredevil. “There are elements in both these comic favorites that clearly owe their inspiration to the Black Bat,” Fortier continues. “Our first two books in this series were big hits and we’re pleased to be releasing this new collection.”

In this third volume, the Black Bat faces a mystic swami said to possess arcane powers, boards a high speed train to foil a gang’s bold attempt to rescue their captured boss and offers his services to protect the life of a famous Broadway personality threatened with death.  New pulp writers Greg Hatcher, Gene Moyers, Gordon Dymowski and Erik Franklin have captured all the action and thrills that were hallmarks of the early pulps and delivered a quartet of amazing Black Bat exploits pulps fans will cherish.

“Black Bat Mysteries Vol 3” features twelve interior illustrations by Marco Santiago and a gorgeous, painted cover by Graham Hill, with design by Airship 27 Production Art Director Rob Davis.

SHERLOCK HOLMES – SECRETS OF THE DEAD

Airship 27 Productions is proud to present its latest Sherlock Holmes title, “Sherlock Holmes – Secrets of the Dead” by Jack Beddows.

A frightened woman contacts Sherlock Holmes believing her husband is plotting to murder her.  Holmes entraps the devious spouse and turns him over to the police. Several days later the woman is found hanged in her home. Soon the Great Detective and his loyal companion become the targets of a deadly assassin all because of something called the Berenford Letter. Thus begins the chase that will lead the duo through the darkest corners of London; from an abandoned munitions factory to the eerie and sinister depot of the dead, the Necropolis Station and end in the gloomy corridors of an insane asylum. All the while Holmes realizes they are being manipulated by a criminal genius whose ultimate goal will reveal the secrets of the dead and a hidden piece of Sherlock Holmes’ own past.

“We are always excited about releasing a new Holmes mystery,” says Airship 27 Productions’ Managing Editor, Ron Fortier. “Especially one this great. When Jack Beddows offered us his manuscript, we were thrilled. His vampire novel, “The Shadow of Her Smile,” was one of our first titles of the year and a huge success with our readers. Beddows knows his London streets and his settings add a great deal of authentic atmosphere to this original mystery. Holmes fans are going to eat it up!”

The cover art is by Adam Shaw and Pulp Factory Award winning artist, Rob Davis, provides the nine black and white interior illustrations. Davis has been called the Sidney Paget of our times and his hundreds of Holmes and Watson drawings over the past ten years have cemented that claim.  “Sherlock Holmes – Secrets of the Dead,” is a gripping, suspense filled adventure as can only be offered by Airship 27 Productions; an acknowledge leader in New Pulp fiction.

GHOST BOY Vol Two

GHOST BOY RETURNS

Airship 27 Productions is thrilled to announce the release of its second anthology featuring the amazing comic-book hero, Ghost Boy!

It is the mid-60s and the U.S. is in thick of the Cold War the Soviet Union and Red China. The country’s greatest asset is Ghost Boy, a young genius with amazing supernatural powers, and his eight foot tall steel and chrome robot, Pops.  Ripped from the pages of Jigsaw Comics, Ghost Boy returns in this collection of four brand new adventures.

“This character is just so much fun.  He captures the innocence and the exuberance of the  Silver Age of comics,” states Airship 27 Production’s Managing Editor.  “Sure, fans were still into Marvel and DC, but in the early 60s we also had dozens of other publishers unleashing a myriad weird heroes ala Nemesis, Herbie, Dr. Spektor, and of course Ghost Boy; the scientific wonder who could read minds and turn invisible. He was a real original and we’re delighted to bring him back in these brand new prose adventures.”

A rogue army invades America; a giant monster from another dimension attacks a small western town and a cunning foreign inventor creates a machine to enslave the minds of his targets. These are just some of threats facing our heroes as put down by pulp writers Terry Alexander, J.Walt Layne, Erik Franklin and Lee Houston Jr.  Gary Kato, a well known comic-book artists, and devotee of the great Steve Ditko, provides the interior illustrations giving the book the perfect Silver Age comic-book feel.  Whereas Zachary Brunner provides the cover which is an homage to Jack Kirby’s classic cover to Marvel’s Fantastic Four # 1.

UPDATE ON BENEFIT BOOK

LEGENDS OF NEW PULP FICTION

UPDATE

The submission deadline for stories closed last night at midnight.  Initially we had reported we would have 57 brand new stories in this collection, which is being produced to help our colleague, writer/editor/publisher Tommy Hancock.  Of course there were a few naysayers out there who said we’d never get all 57 stories.  They were right.  We didn’t get 57 stories in, we got 61!!!  61 amazing writers pitched in and contributed such wonderful stories covering every conceivable genre of pulp fiction.

And here’s the big surprise.  Whereas when published this tome will instantly become a Who’s Who of New Pulp Fiction, we realized it would have one glaring omission and we set out to correct that.  Tommy will be not only be contributing a brand new story to the collection but has also agreed to write the introduction.  Meaning, officially “Legends of New Pulp Fiction” will contain 62 tales of action, adventure and wonder when released.

These stories feature such classic pulp heroes as Secret Agent X, the Black Bat, the Green Ghost, the Flying Dutchman plus newly minted pulp heroes ala Brother Bones, Sgt. Janus and Charles St. Cyprian. It has private eyes, westerns, sci-fi, horror, ghost stories, sword and sorcery and so many other classic pulp themes it is impossible to list them all here.

With all fiction in-house, we move into phase two of the project; collecting the 62 illustrations that will be included, one per story.  Over a dozen of the finest graphic artists in the business have signed on to produce these gorgeous pieces and their deadline is the 1st of Oct. The painted cover is coming to us courtesy of the amazing Douglas Klauba.  All fingers crossed we can have this massive package all assembled by the end of October and available for sale in November, in time for the holiday season.

To all those creators who couldn’t participate but still want to help us, you can do so in two ways.  One, buy a copy of the book when it is out and two, help us promote it across the internet.  Word of mouth at the right time will be invaluable to us.  And there you go, that’s where we are as of the 1st of Sept.

Onwards and upwards,

JEZEBEL JOHNSTON - Devil's Handmaid

JEZEBEL JOHNSTON
Devil’s Handmaid

Airship 27 Productions takes to the high seas with the release of its first ever pirate novel; JEZEBEL JOHNSTON – Devil’s Handmaid by writer Nancy Hansen.

Born on the pirate island of Tortuga, fourteen year old Jezebel Johnston is a beautiful mulatto sired by an English privateer named Long Tom Johnston and Mofina, the Madame of a well known bordello.  For most of her young life, Jezebel was mesmerized by her father’s stories of life on the high seas.  Eventually he sailed off on a new adventure and never returned.

Frustrated by her own boring existence, Jezebel conceives of a daring plan to escape the island.  She disguises herself as a boy and signs aboard the pirate ship, Devil’s Handmaid, captained by the notorious Dandy Dan Abrams.  Her disguise works and within hours she sailing away from all she knows as she boldly challenges the dangers and threats that lie before her.

Writer Nancy Hansen tells a story of clashing empires all seeking to expand their dominions into the New World.  Amidst this expansion of wealth and influence, the pirates of the Caribbean were borne, a savage fraternity of outlaw sailors, murderers and scalawags who ruled the seas.  Now comes the saga of a young girl willing to share their tempestuous adventures, cutlass for cutlass, until one day she will become the greatest pirate queen of them all.

“I’ve been a big fan of Nancy’s writings for several years,” says Airship 27 Productions’ Managing Editor, Ron Fortier. “When she contacted us about this new book, I was thrilled. We’d never done a straight up pirate novel and getting one from such a talented writer was our good luck.”  Meticulously researched, JEZEBEL JOHNSTON – Devil’s Handmaid is the first in a series and kicks off with a gorgeous cover by Terry Pavlet and interior illustrations by Airship 27 Art Director Rob Davis.  Fortier ends with, “Adventure fiction doesn’t get any better than this.”

HOMAGE TO MAMS

Recently while envisioning the cover to SECRET AGENT X Vol 5 - Art Director Rob Davis and me thought it would be fun to pay homage to those Men's Adventure Magazines of the 50s & 60s (MAMS).  So Rob whipped up this detailed pencil drawing and we sent it off to Canadian painter Ingrid Hardy who is now hard at work realizing it as full blown, color painting. We can't wait to see the results.

Created as homage to the classic space pulp heroes ala Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers, the Mars McCoy stories are past paced, action heavy adventures as Captain McCoy and his beautiful android Lt. Betty-12 travel the galaxies aboard their fighter cruiser, the Black Bird Five bringing law and order to the spaceways.

Volume one contains stories by John Bear Ross, Greg Gick and Andrew Salmon, with volume two featuring two novella tales; one by James Palmer and one by Van Allen Plexico.

“Naturally we were all anxious to see which of our titles Radio Archives would choose first,” says Airship 27 Productions Managing Editor Ron Fortier.  “And honestly, we couldn’t be happier.  More will be forthcoming when the audiobooks are available for sale.”

BARRY BASKERVILLE # 3

RETURN OF THE BOY DETECTIVE

Airship 27 Productions is proud to announce the release of its third children’s book series starring Barry Baskerville; the boy who idolizes Sherlock Holmes.  “Barry Baskerville Traps a Thief,” is the third installment in this bestselling series from one of the premier publishers of New Pulp Fiction. Written by Prof. Richard Kellogg, the character’s creator and avowed Sherlock Holmes enthusiast with colorful artwork by Hawaiian based graphic artist, Gary Kato.

The series debut in 2013 with “Barry Baskerville Solves a Case” and was an immediate favorite amongst both teachers and Sherlock Holmes fans. It went on to receive wonderful reviews lauding the educational aspects of the book. The following year saw the release of book two, “Barry Baskerville Returns,” and it was also praised by parents and teachers alike.

“Prof. Kellogg tells engaging stories that challenge his young readers,” says Airship 27 Productions Managing Editor Ron Fortier. “Not only are they entertained by Barry’s crime solving antics, but along the way taught the importance of logic and reasoning. It is this win-win combination that have made the books so popular. We are extremely excited to be releasing the third adventures.

In “Barry Baskerville Traps a Thief,” the young boy detective has to solve the mystery of who is stealing items from people’s front porches in his neighborhood. With the help of his parents and the local police, young Barry begins gathering clues and energetically follows them to unmask the culprit.  “Along with Prof. Kellogg’s whimsical tale,” adds Fortier, “we have a book full of beautiful, colored illustrations by an industry pro in Gary Kato. Fans of the series will not want to miss this new entry.”

RADIO ARCHIVES & AIRSHIP 27

Airship 27 Productions, one of the best known of the New Pulp publishers today, is joining forces with Radio Archives, the leading voice in audiobooks to bring their action/adventure pulp titles to the exciting world of audiobooks.

“We couldn’t be happier about all this,” says Airship 27 Productions Managing Editor, Ron Fortier. “I love great storytelling in any media and have been a big fan of Radio Archives for several years now. How they bring books to life is simply fantastic and brings to mind memories of the golden days of radio.”

Airship 27 Productions was launched over ten years ago by Fortier, a veteran comic book and fantasy writer, along with his partner, professional graphic artist, Rob Davis, who serves as the company’s award winning Art Director. With over a hundred titles in their catalog, Airship 27 Productions is fueled by a stable of over fifty of the finest new pulp writers in the field and a cadre of over thirty amazing artists who provide the books’ interior illustrations and stunning covers for which they are recognized.

Initially begun to create new adventures of classic pulp heroes that had fallen into public domain, Airship 27 quickly expanded its subject matter allowing writers to whip up brand new heroes while at the same time delving into the popular worlds of such classic characters like Sherlock Holmes and Sinbad the Sailor.

“This new venture seems logical,” Fortier continues, “in the next evolutionary step for New Pulp. Radio Archives, under Tom Brown’s inspired leadership, has proven what they can do with classic pulp, now we’re all going to get to see them weave their unique magic on New Pulp. We couldn’t be more excited.”

Tom Brown of Radio Archives commented “We couldn’t be happier to work with Ron and Rob. You can see the passion they have in every book they publish. They are having a lot of fun.”

Tom further said “Audiobooks have been around for 40 years and are just becoming discovered in the last few years. With over a billion Smart Phones that can play audiobooks along with Amazon heavily promoting audiobooks combined with an average 53 minute commute per day is causing the audiobook field to explode.”

Five years ago only 10% of books had an audiobook version and I believe that number will increase to 90% in the future. Customers now expect a successful publisher to offer an eBook and audiobook version along side their print books.”

As specific titles are chosen, both Radio Archives and Airship 27 Productions will continue to promote each as they become available via press releases and other media marketing tools.

As ever, Airship 27 award winning Art Director Rob Davis provided the book’s design. “We’ve pretty much got an international team on this one,” Fortier finishes. “All working towards delivering a truly unique New Pulp fiction reading experiences.
